MY ROLE

Climate Change is one of the most pressing challenges of our time, and the Solar Decathlon India (SDI) initiative empowers the next generation of architects, engineers, and designers to develop innovative solutions for a sustainable future. As a Visual Designer for the SDI team, I had the opportunity to craft engaging visual narratives for the annual SDI event. My responsibilities spanned both digital and physical mediums, creating impactful designs that enhanced the event’s communication and engagement.

Understanding the Context

The annual SDI Event is a culmination of months of effort by students teams who design net-zero-energy-water buildings. It’s a platform for students to showcase their solutions while engaging with leaders in real estate development and sustainability. The challenge for me was to visually encapsulate the core values of SDI- innovation, sustainability, and resilience-while ensuring cohesive branding across all collaterals.

This case study outlines the visual design process and deliverables I created for SDI, focusing on the storytelling, challenges, solutions, and outcomes of my work.

The Design Brief

Objectives:

Design digital and physical event collaterals that resonates with SDI’s theme;
Ensure consistency and alignment with SDI’s branding guidelines;
Engage and inspire participants, partners and stakeholders through key social media collaterals.

Scope of Work:

Digital Design: Social media posts, website banners, digital posters, etc;
Physical Design: ID cards, banners, standees, posters and venue signage;
Event Highlights: Key visuals for award ceremonies and presentations

Impact

Brand Consistency: The cohesive visual identity reinforced SDI’s brand presence across multiple touchpoints.
Positive Feedback: Received commendations from stakeholders for the clarity and impact of the designs.
Design Reusability: The positive feedback from the 2023 SDI event led to the reuse of my designs for the 2024 SDI event. This demonstrated the longevity and effectiveness of the visuals, saving resources and reinforcing SDI's consistent branding.
